Among the best family hotels in the Maldives
As soon as you arrive at Sun Island Resort & Spa, you are struck by the feeling of having arrived in a tropical jungle paradise. At almost 1.6km in length, Sun Island Resort & Spa is the largest of the Villa hotels, and one of the largest island resorts in the Maldives, which means there is always something to do!
It also means that the hotel actually cultivates a large amount of its fresh produce right here on the island. So as you explore the island on foot or by bicycle, you’ll notice the banana plantations, the cheerful chillies and assorted vegetables being grown for the restaurants. This incredible agricultural achievement has led to the resort receiving numerous awards for its contribution to sustainable tourism.
There’s a whole range of accommodation options at Sun Island. Of the 426 rooms on the island, 72 are water bungalows. For those who prefer a little sand between their toes, there are the beach bungalows. All 218 Superior Beach Bungalows and 136 Standard Beach Bungalows are built along the beach for direct access to the lagoon.
There is a huge variety of dining options, too. The main restaurant “Maaniya” is open for breakfast lunch and dinner for those guests staying in beach bungalows. The Southern Star restaurant accommodates those in water bungalows. The Zero restaurant gives you the chance to try the vegetables grown right here on the island! Thai, Italian, Japanese and Grill restaurants are also to be found in this culinary heaven.
There is always something to do at Sun Island Resort. The watersports team are always on-hand during the day to help you arrange all motorized or non-motorized activities and also organise excursions. If you feel like dragging yourself away from the pool, the island boasts a 9-hole mini golf as well as a gymnasium, aerobics room, volleyball pitch and several games rooms.
Guests can also play badminton, squash or tennis. Guests really shouldn’t leave the island without experiencing the relaxation that can be found at Araamu Spa. The blissful atmosphere of the spa makes it a sanctuary, even on a heavenly resort island! Sun Island is always lively and if you head over to the Main Bar in the evening, you’ll find karaoke, pool competitions, cultural shows and DJ nights.
