We prioritize safety and fun! Following the latest recommendations, our policy regarding scuba diving activities after flying is to wait 12 hours before engaging in any scuba diving activities. Additionally, all diving activities must cease completely 24 hours before boarding a domestic or commercial flight.
Absolutely! You can join our Discover Scuba Diving program, where an experienced instructor will introduce you to the amazing underwater world. This program is designed for complete beginners and provides all the necessary training and equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Yes, an orientation dive may be required. Our orientation dive is designed to help divers reacclimate to the water and ensure compliance with Maldivian dive regulations. If you are a certified diver but cannot provide proof of at least 30 dives and/or have not dived within the last 3 months in tropical conditions, you will need to complete an orientation dive.
diveOceanus highly recommends bringing a medical certificate for scuba diving. If you are unsure whether you need to bring one, please check the “Scuba Medical Questionnaire” on the UHMS website (www.uhms.org). If you answer “YES” to any of the questions on the questionnaire or have any of the medical conditions listed, we would require a fit-for-diving medical certificate from a physician.
If you’re wondering about insurance coverage for scuba diving, please note that all scuba diving, freediving, and snorkeling activities supervised by diveOceanus instructors and dive masters include DAN insurance at no extra charge. However, if you are 75 years old or above, special requirements must be met before obtaining DAN insurance. This process must be completed before your arrival in the Maldives.
Attention divers aged 75 or older:
DAN require a medical certificate from a physician. The certificate must confirm your fitness to dive, current health status, medications, and dosages. Please email this certificate to diveOceanus to ensure clearance for diving activities. Send details at least 10 days before your arrival. We’ll notify you upon receiving the necessary documentation. Please note, the final approval for scuba diving remains with DAN or an alternative insurance provider.
Medical Questionnaire: [Recreational Diving Medical Screening]
In accordance with Maldivian dive regulations, Scuba Diver certifications and junior Open Water certifications (up to 12 years old) are limited to a maximum depth of 12 meters. Those with Open Water Certification have the freedom to dive up to 20 meters, while advanced and higher certifications permit diving to a maximum depth of 30 meters. It’s important to note that recreational diving beyond 30 meters is prohibited by law, and decompression diving is also not allowed in the Maldives.
All diveOceanus centers will offer Nitrox Enriched Air for certified Nitrox divers. If you haven’t obtained your Nitrox certification yet, please get in touch with a team member.
Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx), also known as Nitrox or oxygen-enriched air, is a gas mixture of oxygen and nitrogen containing more than 21% oxygen. It’s commonly used for recreational diving, with mixes typically containing 32–36% oxygen. The minimum requirement to enroll for Nitrox certification is to have an Open Water certification.
The nearest hyperbaric chambers to Villa Nautica are the Bandos Hyperbaric Chamber, located just 10 minutes away, and ADK Hospital, which is approximately 20 minutes away. Both facilities are equipped with the necessary medical facilities to handle diving emergencies. For guests staying at Villa Park, Villa Haven and Royal Island, both chambers are accessible within a 2-hour and 30-minute speedboat ride.
If you don’t feel like lugging all your gear halfway across the world, you are more than welcome to rent equipment from our dive centers. However, if you do have your own gear, there is plenty of storage space available in our centers for your convenience.
The water temperature is always around 28 degrees Celsius here, so a 3mm ‘shorty’ wetsuit is usually sufficient. However, if you are sensitive to the cold, you may want to consider bringing a 3mm full-body wetsuit. Alternatively, a long sleeve UV-protected rashguard can also provide adequate protection from the sun and sea. If you prefer not to bring your own, we provide 3mm ‘shorty’ wetsuits for rent at our dive centers.
Our cylinders are compatible with both DIN and INT regulators and can be used with DIN/INT yoke regulators.
We use aluminum tanks at all of our locations.
diveOceanus includes a cylinder, weights with a belt, mask, fins, and snorkel. DAN insurance and boat trips are also included. Surface marker buoys are provided at no additional cost.
Equipment rental options are available either on a per-item basis or as a complete equipment rental package. The complete package includes BCD (Buoyancy Control Device), regulator, dive computer, wetsuit, mask, and fins. Nitrox fills are provided complimentary for certified Nitrox divers or those undergoing Nitrox training.
